Back in 2013 Favela Street started with the Favela Street Girls project in the Northern favela’s of Rio (Complexo da Penha). With the project we created a safe space for girls to play football and to be local role models for other youngsters. The project evolved into the Familia Caracol project with support from Street Child United.
BBC contacted us to ask if we knew inspiring young women for their BBC 100 Women 2017 list. We suggested our former Favela Street Girls coaches Jessica and Dryka. Dryka was selected and is now part of the BBC 100 Women list. BBC visited the project in Rio to witness the change these girls make with their own eyes.
