On March 8, International Womensday, Favela Street West kicked off in Amsterdam West. Our first project in the Netherlands in cooperation with West Beweegt. With trainer Rocky Hehakaija and Houda Loukili they support girls in achieving their dreams and being a role model in their community with the power of street football and kickboxing.
Favela Street West is focused on girls only between the age of 12-19 years old. We help girls develop a positive mindset, inner confidence, resilience and expanding your network during our six months program.
We got some fresh new faces in our team in Amsterdam: Nihad Salihi, Bouchra Moudou, Celeste Plak (guest trainer), Nura van de Sluis, Lara Hehanussa and Bettina Perremuto. From West Beweegt we are very lucky to work with Romena Daniels en Robina Buffing. During the program we welcome some special guest such as former heavyweight champion kickboxer Badr Hari, presenter, radio dj and content creator Ouassima Tajmout, journalist Charisa Chotoe, Marie Lotte Hagen en Nydia van Voorthuizen vanDAMN HONEY , International pro Dutch basketball player Chatilla van Grinsven and many more.
Every Monday evening we work on our goals & dreams. Curious how that looks like? We documented the program for a short documentary. Watch the filmtrailer ‘A West Side Story’ here.
Together with Link & Co we created the Favela Family podcast, check out the first episode ‘De Kracht van sport | met Badr Hari’ on Spotify and other podcast platforms.
